Differentiation with Technology

Teachers have always been encouraged and often required to differentiate curriculum and instruction to meet the individual needs of their students. As technology has advanced and become more common place in the classroom, differentiation and accommodating students is easier than ever. While there are many things and ways teachers can differentiate, they all fall under three main categories: content, process, and product.  Content When teachers differentiate content, they are differentiating how a student accesses material. Some ways that this can be done are: Use websites such as Moby Max, IXL, and iReady to provide additional support to students.  Sites like NewsELA allow teachers to assign students the same text on a variety of Lexile levels to meet the needs of individual students.  Process When teachers differentiate the process, they differentiate the activity the students are doing. Designing a Differentiated Lesson Plan

“Differentiated instruction is the process of tailoring lessons to meet each student’s individual interests, needs, and strengths. Teaching this way gives students choice and flexibility in how they learn, and helps teachers personalize learning. Assessing Technology-Based Resources for Differentiation

Introduction The way students learn, and teachers teach has changed drastically over the last two and half years. The Covid-19 pandemic has showed us how important it is that technology be integrated into the daily curriculum of our students. The benefits that technology had in the classroom is becoming increasingly obvious. For example, technology gives students easy access to information, accelerates learning, and enjoyable opportunities to apply what they've learned. It enables students to investigate new topics and better understand difficult concepts. Additionally, it makes it easier for teachers to differentiate activities for students of varying levels and academic abilities. Finally, technology allows for and increase in collaboration among teachers (How Important Is Technology in Education? Benefits, Challenges, and Impact on Students, 2020). As a seventh-grade teacher ELA and Social Studies teacher, I have a wide range of apps and programs that I use daily in my classroom...
